Some photographs from a trip to Kushinagar, Uttar Pradesh in September 2016.
Kushinagar is understood to be the place of the Buddha’s death, or according Buddhist beliefs, the place where he achieved Mahaparinirvana. It will be one of two pilot sites for the Buddhist Circuit project that aims to develop and connect core historical places associated with the life of the Buddha. The goal is to leverage tourism and historical heritage for poverty reduction through infrastructural, architectural, and interpretive interventions.
I have been working as designer for this project for most of the year.
